TENKUU NO ESCAFLOWNE

Tenkuu no Escaflowne is a story about a girl who gets drawn into another world that is very similar to her own, and yet quite different. There she meets friends and enemies, and becomes an intrinsic part of a war that she doesn't even want to see. This series is very unique in many aspects. First of all, it is very difficult to classify this series. Though the main character is female, the show is not entirely based on her relationships, and therefore cannot be classified as shoujo. Although mechas are used throughout the series and war is a predominant theme, the show is also not based on these concepts, and can therefore not be labeled shounen either. Second, there are many different forms of this series, all of which are completely different. Each started at a different point in production, which is why, though both mangas came out before the anime series was released, the series was not based on the manga. There are two different manga versions of this series, one which is shounen and one which is shoujo. There is also a movie based on this series.
