BISHOUJO SENSHI SAILOR MOON
THE ANIME
Plot
Sailor Moon
The first season, just entitled Sailor Moon, explains Sailor Moon's past and coincides with the Sailormoon arc of the manga. She and the Inners all discover that they had past lives, which enabled them to transform into the Sailor Senshi during the present. Sailor Moon is the first one introduced, and she is given the task of finding the other senshi, the ginzuishou (Silver Crystal), the princess. Luna is the one who gives Usagi this task. Sailor Moon then has her first fight, and Tuxedo Kamen is introduced. He's mysterious because no one knows who he is or why he is aiding Sailor Moon. The next main character to be introduced is Ami, aka Sailor Mercury. The rest of the senshi are introduced in this order: Rei, aka Sailor Mars; Makoto, aka Sailor Jupiter; and Minako, aka Sailor Venus.
As the series progresses, we also learn more of the villain's motive. Originally, it is believed that Queen Beryl was the leader of the Dark Kingdom because she controlled the four generals: Jadeite, Nephrite, Zoicite, and Kunzite. In actuality, it was Queen Metallia who told Beryl what needed to be done. (The only decision Beryl really made was to brainwash Mamoru so that he fought for the Dark Kingdom. Beryl was always jealous that Endymion had chosen Princess Selenity over her.) They were attempting to take over the Earth once again. They had attempted a thousand years previously, but this failed because Queen Selenity used the ginzuishou to destroy the Dark Kingdom. She then used what was left of her powers to reincarnate her only daughter, her daughter's lover, the senshi, and anyone else who had died during the battle. For this reason, the Dark Kingdom got a second chance.
The battle was difficult, but the senshi were able to defeat Metallia by combining their powers. Unfortunately, this caused everyone to lose their life. The four Inner Senshi died while battling youmas, Tuxedo Kamen was killed by Beryl while trying to protect Sailor Moon, and Sailor Moon was killed because she used the ginzuishou. However, the ginzuishou granted Sailor Moon her last wish while she was dying. She and her friends were allowed to continue life, as normal teenagers.
Sailor Moon R
Sailor Moon R has two different storylines in it. The first deals with Ail (Alan), Ann, and the Makaiju (Doom Tree in the dub). Ail and Ann came to Earth to get more energy for the Makaiju. They disguised themselves as junior high students named Ginga Seijuurou (Ail) and Ginga Natsumi (Ann), where they meet Usagi, Ami, and Makoto, though they also meet Rei, Minako, and Mamoru through chance encounters. Luna gives Usagi her memory back, and from then on, she tries to get back together with the Inners and Mamoru. Unfortunately for her, Seijuurou develops a crush on her, and Natsumi develops a crush on Mamoru, which hinders her plans for reuniting with Mamoru. Luna eventually gives the Inners their memories back because they are needed to help Sailor Moon fight the cardians, but she can not help Mamoru. However, Tsukikage no Knight does aid the senshi, and it is discovered that he is the part of Mamoru could not forget the promise he made to Queen Selenity, to protect Usagi. At the end of this storyline, Ail and Ann discover that they love each other, and that the Makaiju needed love, not envergy, so they went back into space with the Makaiju and went to find a new home for themselves. This storyline does not occur in the manga.
The second storyline deals with the Dark Moon family and their attack on Crystal Tokyo, which coincides with the Black Moon arc in the manga. Chibi Usa and Sailor Pluto are introduced in this arc. Chibi Usa travels to the past to get the ginzuishou to save her mother, who was injured during an attack by the Dark Moon. Her father and the Royal Family's guardians were injured later on, attempting to protect Crystal Tokyo. Chibi Usa was the only one uninjured, and she escaped, so the Dark Moon followed her to the past.
The Sailor Senshi fight to protect her because she is a little girl who is being pursued by the Dark Moon family, though the senshi do not understand why. First, Rubeus and the Weird Sisters: Cooan (Catzy), Beruche (Birdy), Calaveras (Avery), and Petz (Prisma). Then Esmeraude attacked, finding areas where the black crystal could gather tons of energy instead of chasing after Chibi Usa. It is not until after Chibi Usa learned to trust the senshi that she explained as best as she felt was possible what had happened to her in Crystal Tokyo. The senshi decided that it would be best if they went to Crystal Tokyo to aid Chibi Usa.
While traveling to the future, the senshi are able to meet Sailor Pluto face to face (She first talks to them via Luna-P). She almost kills Sailor Moon, but stops when Chibi Usa explains what was happening. The senshi then meet King Endymion, and he explains the current situation of Crystal Tokyo. The senshi also were able to learn of their future. Sailor Moon and Tuxedo Kamen discover that they would be the rulers of Crystal Tokyo and the parents of Chibi Usa. The Inner Senshi learn of their duty as the guardians of the Royal Family. After all of this, Sailor Moon tries to use her ginzuishou to free her future self, but this doesn't work and Chibi Usa becomes so devastate that she ran away, outside of the protective shields. Wiseman found her and brainwashed her.
Meanwhile, the senshi were forced to defeat Esmeraude, who was in the form of a dragon because of Wiseman. The senshi then learned that Chibi Usa was nowhere to be found, so they searched until Pluto told them to return to the past because something odd had happened to Chibi Usa. There, they met Black Lady, an adult Chibi Usa who believed that she was unloved. At every meeting, the senshi tried to get her to remember the happy moments, but Wiseman kept erasing her memories. Black Lady has become his most prized servant, and when Saffiru discovered how Wiseman was controlling Demando, Wiseman killed him. Then, Demando realized what was happening and Wiseman killed him as well. Wiseman began to open the gateway to Darkness with the help of Black Lady. The senshi worked to revert Chibi Usa back to the way she was, and eventually are successful, but the gateway is open. Usagi and Chibi Usa use their ginzuishous to defeat Wiseman, and afterwards, Chibi Usa returned to the future.
Sailor Moon S
Sailor Moon S is the third season of Sailor Moon. This season coincides with the Infinity arc of the manga. Haruka/Sailor Uranus, Michiru/Sailor Neptune, and Hotaru/Sailor Saturn are introduced in this arc. Sailor Pluto returns and reveals that she is Meiou Setsuna. Chibi Usa returns as well.
This season stars right after Chibi Usa leaves to return to her parents in the future. The senshi are busy studying for high school entrance exams because they were in their last year of junior high. To their knowledge, everything has been peaceful and have not had to fight. However, this changes when Rei was attacked by one of the daimon. The senshi tried to save her, but they were not strong enough to do so. Then, the daimon broke Sailor Moon's brooch, so she was unable to transform. Two mysterious senshi, later revealed to be Sailors Uranus and Neptune, destroyed the daimon to examine the heart crystal, but returned it because it wasn't a talisman. The new battle had begun.
Sailor Moon gets a new brooch, which was created by the power of her and Mamoru's love, during the next battle. This allows her to continue to fight, to help her friends. The battles continue, and the senshi learn of Uranus and Neptune, who reveal themselves during the third battle. Uranus and Neptune continue to attempt to get the senshi to stop fighting, because they don't understand what's going on and the fight does not involve them. They are not kind to the senshi because they feel the senshi are in the way. Meanwhile, in their civilian identities, the senshi meet Haruka and Michiru, both very famous students at Mugen Gakuen High School. These two are very kind to the senshi whenever they run into them, which is rather often. Chibi Usa returns during this time period. It is eventually learned, though, that Haruka and Michiru are Uranus and Neptune. The two then start avoiding the senshi, and act towards the senshi like they did as Neptune and Uranus before they knew the senshi's identities.
After a long search, the talismen were found. They were discovered in the heart crystals of Haruka, Michiru, and Setsuna. Because they were brought together, these talismen created the Chalice, which Sailor Moon used to become Super Sailor Moon. The new mission for the Outers became finding the Messiah so that she would save the world, and destroying the Evil Messiah. The Inners tried to help, but Haruka and Michiru did not want their help because they would just get in the way. Setsuna went back and forth between the Outers and the Inners because of Chibi Usa. Ultimately, it was discovered that Hotaru was Sailor Saturn, and the Outer tried to kill her since she was supposed to be the Evil Messiah, but the Inners saved her because she was Chibi Usa's friend. The Inners continued to protect her, even after she became Mistress 9, the true Evil Messiah. Master Pharoah 90 was able to almost complete his invasion of this solar system because of this. However, Sailor Saturn was eventually able to take back over her body from Mistress 9, and went to fight Master Pharoah 90. Sailor Moon used everyone's power to power-up to Super Sailor Moon (the Chalice had been destroyed while trying to save Hotaru from Mistress 9), and she was able to bring baby Hotaru back from the Tau star system, where Sailor Saturn had fought Master Pharoah 90 and won. Chibi Usa left, and returned in the course of one day, because her parents wanted her to train some more. Setsuna was killed during the attack on Mugen Gakuen. Haruka and Michiru left, because they needed a break, and no new mission had come up.
Sailor Moon SuperS
Sailor Moon SuperS is the fourth season of Sailor Moon. It coincides with the Dream arc of the manga. 'Elios is introduced in this storyline, and the Outers are nowhere to be found (except in that unnumbered episode that wasn't shown on American TV, and probably wasn't dubbed.). Chibi Usa is still there, since she was there at the end of the S season.
This season begins with the coming of the Dead Moon Circus, who arrive during a solar eclipse. No one notices that the circus just appears in Tokyo right after the eclipse, except for Usagi. As a result, no one is worried. Pegasus has already been introduced. He had appeared to Chibi Usa in a dream, which causes her to wonder if there was a forest in Tokyo, to which Usagi responds that of course there wasn't. Tiger's Eye appears and attacks Unazuki (Lizzie in the English dub). He is the first of the Amazon Trio to be introduced. Tiger's Eye almost defeats Sailor Moon, Chibimoon, and Tuxedo Kamen, but then Pegasus gives Sailor Moon and Chibimoon their power-ups and they become Super Sailor Moon and Super Sailor Chibimoon. After the battle, the power-ups disappear, and they return to Sailor Moon and Chibimoon. During the second battle after this one, Sailor Moon and Chibimoon have a permanent power-up, and don't have to wait for Pegasus to appear for them to become Super Sailor Senshi.
These battles continue, and the senshi get to meet Hawk's Eye and Fish's Eye, as well as Tiger's Eye. However, the Amazon Trio eventually realize that they shouldn't be attacking people with beautiful dreams. This brings them close to destruction; however, Sailor Moon helps them because they stop attacking people, so the Amazon Trio get to have dreams as humans do and they get to live in Elysion with 'Elios. This brings about the Amazoness Quartet. The Amazoness Quartet were young girls who were disillusioned by Nehelenia. They believed that they should always be children and never grow up because adults never have fun.
The Amazoness Quartet continued where the Amazon Trio left off. However, they looked at people's dream mirrors instead of into them because now they knew that they were looking for the golden dream mirror. They never find the mirror, though they do manage to lead the keeper of the mirror into the Dead Moon Circus tent so that Nehelenia could find it. Chibi Usa was captured and the golden crystal was found. The Amazoness Quartet, shortly afterward, wanted to have some fun, so they freed Chibi Usa and the Pegasus, though both were recaptured by Nehelenia, which led to the Amazoness Quartet realizing their folly. They then tried to help, after getting free from their punishment, by stealing the Golden Crystal and giving it to Sailor Moon. It took everyone in the world to get the crystal to work, but Nehelenia was defeated. Unfortunately, she took Chibi Usa to use as revenge against Sailor Moon. Nehelenia had become old and ugly, which resulted in her becoming crazy enough to think that Sailor Moon was Queen Selenity. This infuriated her even more, because she remembered what happened to her as a result of Queen Selenity. She threw Chibi Usa off of the rising circus top, which was heading towards the new moon. Sailor Moon jumped after her, and after transforming into Princess Selenity, she caught her and eventually awoke her. 'Elios heard her awaken and came to rescue them. They safely landed on a bridge. Later, 'Elios said that he must return to Elysion. Everyone says goodbye to him, and he leaves. The Amazoness Quartet, who witness this, also decide to leave, but do not tell the senshi, stating that maybe they'll meet again.
Sailor Moon Sailor Stars
Sailor Stars is the fifth and final season of Sailor Moon. This season has not been dubbed in English to my knowledge, and therefore has not yet aired on American TV, so this is going to be a rather short summary that is based on what I have read from mainly Hitoshi Doi's site and the Sailor Senshi Page. Like the Sailor Moon R, this season is divided into two storylines. The first part just finishes up the SuperS storyline. Nehelenia had been convinced by someone unknown to attack Earth once more. She breaks free of the mirror and uses mirror parodies to attack the senshi. Hotaru, Setsuna, Haruka, and Michiru return in this arc. Nehelenia is defeated, and everything seems to go back to normal.
The second storyline then begins. It coincides with the SailorStars arc in the manga. Seiya Kou/Sailor Starfighter, Taiki Kou/Sailor Starmaker, and Yaten Kou/Sailor Starhealer, as well as Chibi Chibi and Princess Kakyuu are introduced. In this series, all the Inner Senshi are in high school. Minako, Makoto, Usagi, and Ami are all attending Juuban High School, while Rei continues to attend T*A Private Girls' School. The Sailor Starlights (Seiya, Taiki, and Yaten) also attend Juuban High School, and are searching for their princess, Princess Kakyuu. They meet all the senshi, who don't completely trust them, since they are from outside of the solar system, and the two groups don't really work together until the end. At the end, they are fighting Sailor Galaxia, the strongest senshi in the universe and the senshi who had been taken over by Chaos. Only Eternal Sailor Moon, Sailor Chibi Chibi, Sailor Starfighter, Sailor Starmaker, and Sailor Starhealer are alive; everyone else has had their starseed stolen and died as a result. Sailor Moon looked towards the goodness in Galaxia's heart and defeated Chaos. The star seeds were returned, Princess Kakyuu and the Sailor Starlights left to find a new home, and the senshi get to have go back to semi-normal lives.
